What is earnest prayer?

While Peter was in prison, “the church was earnestly praying to God (Acts 12:5).”

What was that prayer meeting like?

Did they dance around an altar? Shout loudly? Slash themselves with swords and spears? That’s how Baal’s prophets prayed. No one answered them.

Or did they pray like Elijah did? His request seemed impossible, but he simply prayed, “Answer me, O Lord, so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God.” God answered (read the story in 1 Kings 18).

Earnest prayer is serious, intentional, and purposeful. It is talking to the one true God, through Jesus Christ His Son.

Earnest prayer is always answered.
